Holy F*ucksox! I find it unbelievable that people are seriously saying the fire dept. didn't do something completely immoral by letting the house burn when they couild have put it out.

Justice would have their children's school burn down, without them having the ability to rescue their kids. What a f*cking callous bunch. #38902 on 'Why I hate America'.

You want their kids to burn to death because they let someone's property get burned down? What the hell is wrong with you?

Never! I want their children to escape with minor burns, that can easily be taken care of, and the for the hospital to reject helping the children because their parents don't have up to date insurance. That would be funny.

So you don't think there exists animal cruelty laws?

Pets are not just "property", there are protections under law. Please think before posting.

You can take a sledgehammer to an old TV (property), but try doing that in public to your dog and see what happens.

Yes, the US healthcare system is a joke. Well, except I'm not sure if American hospitals would refuse to treat a burn victim.

Right, maybe the owners should be charged with animal cruelty for not letting their dogs out of the burning house.

How do you possibly manage to make your posts increasingly more inane?

Is there some kind of law that says in the absence of Ben Kenobi, the general IQ of all remaining posters must crater to restore balance?

I'm trying to imagine a dog not leaving a house that is on fire. Were they being kept in cages or something?

                    • You're right. The only reasonable conclusion is these people locked their dogs up so they could die in the fire. They probably cackled maniacally in the process. It was also part of the plan to have the fire department put out the fire and waste all of that money, but that part never happened. What a disaster that was.

                      • I'm just surprised the firefighters didn't bother to rescue some dogs that their owners didn't even bother to rescue.

This is why standard economic theory would suggest using taxation to pay for fire protection where these were more common.

In the countryside, the externalities from fire prevention are essentially nil. I see no reason to make fire protection mandatory in this case.

I can see some people (who lack a moral compass) who would think the fire department did the right thing by sticking to the exact terms of deals. I don't agree, but morals aren't absolute.

But the people who cheer this? Or say "God Bless the people who watched and did nothing"? Those people are beyond pathetic, and very sad individuals. Very unfortunate.
