Never! I want their children to escape with minor burns, that can easily be taken care of, and the for the hospital to reject helping the children because their parents don't have up to date insurance. That would be funny.

I'm trying to imagine a dog not leaving a house that is on fire. Were they being kept in cages or something?

You're right. The only reasonable conclusion is these people locked their dogs up so they could die in the fire. They probably cackled maniacally in the process. It was also part of the plan to have the fire department put out the fire and waste all of that money, but that part never happened. What a disaster that was.

I'm just surprised the firefighters didn't bother to rescue some dogs that their owners didn't even bother to rescue.

This would get a lot more interesting if semi-detached, terraced and apartment housing was more popular in that county.

This is why standard economic theory would suggest using taxation to pay for fire protection where these were more common.

In the countryside, the externalities from fire prevention are essentially nil. I see no reason to make fire protection mandatory in this case.

America is a sad place with sad people.

I can see some people (who lack a moral compass) who would think the fire department did the right thing by sticking to the exact terms of deals. I don't agree, but morals aren't absolute.

But the people who cheer this? Or say "God Bless the people who watched and did nothing"? Those people are beyond pathetic, and very sad individuals. Very unfortunate.
