What part you still do not get? Who is saying anything about the "western civilization"? I was quite concrete when answered Elok's post.
The US of A don't have any choice, they have to cut off China from the resources, otherwise the US of A will LOSE a global competition to China in the near future. China's growth is unprecedented both in terms of its rate and stability (they grow constantly at unprecedented rate no matter what, even when there is a crisis in world's economy, their industrial might grows when all other's decline and there are quite objective and historical, if you like, reasons for that)
and the only thing that grows in US is its unprecedented national debt. You don't have to be an Einstein to extrapolate the tendency and calculate when China will be come the world's largest economy. That will happen in our lifetime. If we will live long enough to see that, which I doubt, 'cause such tensions between a declining power and growing power was never resolved peacefully in the history of the human kind. Humans always resolve this through WAR. And this war is not even on horizon, it is already going.
So, US has only two options to stop China and remain the leading superpower:
a) War. As long as they still have a military advantage now.
b) Cut off China from resources. This is exactly what they are doing now in Africa. And want to do in Russia.
Option "C" when America is growing faster than China is just not available, 'cause Chinese and American growth rates are simply not comparable. They just can't do this due to OBJECTIVE HISTORICAL REASONS. So, they have only two options. And sooner or later option B will lead to option A. And there will be no western, no eastern, no southern or any other civilization.
