Stick those 10 in a room with me and about a million units of alcohol, and set the cameras running for the greatest party in history.
It's amazing how I have never heard of any of those people except for Errol Flynn. And I only know who Flynn is from a Jay-Z song reference.

How can you not know who Vivian Stanshall was? The Bonzo Dog Doo-Dah Band were nearly as influential as Led Zeppelin...

I looked up half of them. English. People with relevance 40 freaking years ago. No wonder. I have no embarrassment for not knowing who they are. A different culture and time with no relevance to my generation.

To your culture. **** that English people or white people or whatever were into 40-50 years ago. What relevance does that have to me?

Okay...? I don't know who some of those people are but I'm not exactly going to take every possible opportunity to show how ignorant I am.

Hunter S Thompson would probably just take acid tabs and pass out.

It's not about ignorance. There's this tendency here to mis-characterize cultural non-relevance as ignorance. Instead of having an appreciation for the narrow spectrum from which one views thing as having cultural significance and realization that others do not share that same experience, posters here choose to denigrate.

Would it be appropriate for a Brazilian to mock an American for not knowing of a famous Brazilian pop singer or soccer player from the 1960's? And yet, posters here continually exhibit the same behavior.

Look, if you're American and don't know who Led Zeppelin is, you're just ignorant about popular culture. Get over it.

The question is whose popular culture? Certainly not mine.

                              I know who Jay-Z is.

You don't know who Keith Moon is.

Umm... knowledge of Jay-Z is not relevant here. Would I ostracize you for not being familiar with, let's say, Beanie Sigel?

We can play this game of mocking someone for not knowing what is relevant in your circle but would it get anywhere beyond making us all look like idiots?
