I don't understand why stores would cut prices on the day Christmas shopping begins.

Oh, is that what that Harper business is about? See, this whole situation is unfair. Canadians criticize our government with impunity because they know most of us don't give enough of a damn to find out how their country works and criticize back. I propose that, whenever a Canuck mocks our country, he contributes an embarrassing factoid about his own. That way we learn and can eventually take over the duty for ourselves.

One of my old college friends remarked on FB:

Engage in the fetishization of consumerism: Get pepper-sprayed and physically assaulted. Protest the fetishization of consumerism: Get pepper-sprayed and physically assaulted. Be the one holding the pepper spray: Get an Xbox and a paid vacation.
                TRUTH.

                  Me neither.

In Canada our "black friday" is December 26th.

You mock such a system, but it's rid Canada of the dysfunction that plagues the US stalemate.

Because otherwise no one would go anywhere the weekend after Thanksgiving - people start getting into their heads when Dec 1 hits, Oh I have to shop for Christmas. Cutting prices a few days earlier extends that time & more days equal people potentially buying more.

I wonder what all the rich, top corporate bigwigs really think about the Black Friday deaths that Oerdin showed us?

Canada solved this problem by not having Thanksgiving so ****ing close to Christmas.

Yes, a one party state can certainly get things done.

Let's be real - the GOP and Democrats are more alike than they are different. The US has had a one party system for many decades now. The only thing that changes is the name of the ruling party and trivial policy issues. You don't have any true right or left wing parties. The US government is famously dysfunctional because the minor policy issues are inflated to seem like massive chasms in philosophical differences. Then your government just becomes a bunch of bickering little schoolgirls who can't decide on anything. Every time.

We still blame Abraham Lincoln for this
