        Cite the evidence.

There never was such an atheist.
All that atheism means is a lack of belief in or denial of the existence of a god or gods. It has no further ramifications beyond that.

Genghis Khan and Timur Lenk were responsible for the deaths of millions, and yet neither was an atheist. Just like Nero, Caligula, Catherine de Medici, Mehmet the Conqueror, et cetera, et cetera.

I'm not consumed by burning hatred, leprosy or a wasting disease inflicted by an angry deity.

Stop posting illogical badly thought-out drivel, about atheism, psychopaths, religion, history, ah, most things, in fact.

But to what end ? I enjoy your perspectives on an area of Christian faith with which I'm not too familiar (outside of early Roman/Byzantine history).

And besides I like avgolemono, Byzantine chant and Milton. How many people am I gonna discuss that lot with on a regular basis ?
We never did actually discuss PL beyond Satan being a rebel. Then again, I never did read the whole thing. Tried again, but it's really hard on the eyeballs to read dense iambic pentameter off a laptop screen. Reading Karamazov instead--I imagine you've read that, too?

Kid, if you're going to allude to famous evil bastards' atheism, there's a whole world of choices out there. Stalin, for example; he went to seminary, but turned atheist in his first year according to Wiki, and persecuted the church continually except during WWII when he needed it as a patriotic institution. Also Mao, Pol Pot, Ceausescu (I can never spell his name--the psycho who ran Romania), the Kims, probably lots of others. Hitler's the only really poor choice, because he was really muddled about what he actually believed.

EDIT: I was only one letter off on Ceausescu. Those daffy Romanians pronounce a solitary S as a CH...

                        • Anyone know about Franco's, Salazar's, Trujillo's, Batista's, Pinochet's, etc. religious beliefs? Probably all devout Catholics, right?

                          • I actually wasn't even familiar with Salazar until you mentioned him and I looked him up on Wiki. I assume you're referring to the Portuguese guy, and not to Mr. Slytherin? At any rate, he, like Franco and Mussolini, appears to be a rather second-rate monster. The true connoisseur of sociopaths appreciates the fine insanity of purely atheist tyrant thugs.

The point being surely that their atheism wasn't the rationale for their deeds- their politics was. The number of deaths attributable to wars of a religious nature (or leaders who adhered to any faith in a deity) is far higher- you'd have to include all the Roman emperors who were Christian, the Muslim Caliphs, the Byzantine emperors, Ethiopia's rulers, Hindu rajahs, all the way down to Queen Victoria, Empress of India and assorted American presidents.

With god on their side.... as Joan Baez memorably intoned.

                              • No, I don't think atheism itself was responsible for what they did. I was merely pointing out that Kid could have made any number of better choices to argue from.
