  • Why does Aquafina make bottled water?

And why would anyone buy it?

It's a brand of bottled water. It exists for that purpose. Are you asking why Pepsico makes bottled water? I guess people buy it because they aren't satisfied with the tap water.

Maybe they want that good good Harrisburg water?

He's referencing how Aquafina (Pepsi) and Dasani (Coca Cola) come from public water sources.

          1. There is a market for it.

          2. It satisfies a consumer want or need.

Do not argue with the market.

There's so much wrong with the bottled water industry. Not only is bottled water (when not purchased in bulk) more expensive than gasoline, it results in millions of tons of plastic bottle waste ("Bottled water produces up to 1.5 million tons of plastic waste per year. According to Food and Water Watch, that plastic requires up to 47 million gallons of oil per year to produce. And while the plastic used to bottle beverages is of high quality and in demand by recyclers, over 80 percent of plastic bottles are simply thrown away."). It's a despicable industry beyond niche purposes (like for consumption in third world countries).

You've clearly never lived in Peru if you think bottled water is useless.

What are people getting out of paying 6+ cents per ounce for urban tap water?
