As regards to your earlier point about independents:

A generic Republican candidate is much different that Romney, given that the average Republican candidate in this primary is just left of bat****. Polls are also pretty much meaningless this far out from an election. Obama could win big next year if the economy improves () or lose even bigger if the Eurozone drags us into a double-dip ().

By the way, I highly recommend this Nate Silver piece on Obama's reelection chances from the NYT Magazine.

The best possible thing the wing nuts could do for the country would be to start an insurrection against Romney and back a Perot like independent candidate who stands on the far right. I could actually see a bunch of them so upset about a Mormon moderate that they put up some raving loon Bachmann type.

        EDIT: gah, wrong graph
The thing you have to remember is that, yes, Obama is tied against a generic "Republican candidate" but all the actual Republicans running for President poll much lower on a personal basis because the public knows they're all bat****. I'm confident when all is said and done the independents aren't going to decide bat**** is the flavor for them.

Thankfully, any remote chance of a Perot has just been eliminated, since Oerdin is always wrong. Thanks, man!

I didn't say it would happen, dumb ass. I said that would be the best thing they could do for the country. Learn to read, ********.

Speaking of Perot, Perry's performance last night reminded me of Admiral Stockdale in the 1992 VP debate.

                  No joke.

Perry is a ****ing disgrace; his performance was orders of magnitude worse than Stockdale having to turn up his hearing aid.

Stockdale also had no previous debate experience and didn't even know he was going to be debating Gore and Quayle until a week beforehand. What's Perry's excuse?

                      Stockdale was also a badass

Although I'm not so sure I'd want him to be vice president...

Well, Bush Sr was certainly a better option than Perot.
