Don't be deliberately obtuse. While the Soviet Union was seen as the enemy, you forget that Britain is a much more socialist country than America. We didn't have quite the same black/white naivety as America over the cold war. While to people in continental Europe the Cold War may have much more immediate impact, as an island nation for us it was largely about the nuclear threat. We had two superpowers who were both frequently unstable and sabre waving threatening each other and the rest of us with annihilation. That is the memory that lasts for many people here. -
I don't seem to recall anyone ever saying that the UK had a lot of love for the Soviets. If that truly is what the Brits believe, then I find it sad and disturbing that y'all are so quick to forget the threat of Soviet tanks rolling over war-torn and crippled Western Europe right after World War II.If there is no sound in space, how come you can hear the lasers?

If America hadn't stood where it did in the Cold War, Europe would have rearmed after WWII considerably quicker and more powerfully than it did. The only ass kicking Europe did over the last few centuries was tormenting and enslaving backwards, technologically insignificant foreign lands and then in the early 20th century bombing itself into a parking lot twice over.
