The minimum ASVAB score to enlist in the Marine Corps is higher than the Army but lower than the Navy and Coast Guard. To be fair, though, the minimum scores are close enough to each other relative to the scale, that the differences are small. My ASVAB score was 132.
This is why they would not let me in the marines. Too high a score.

MEU lands with enough supplies for 30 days of combat. It would not take 30 days of combat to take out the Roman army with firearms. Not even a Roman army with the bogus 11,000-man legions from the OP (legions had a paper strength of 4,800 legionaries and centurions, and 1,200 non-combatants, though were seldom at full strength in Augustus's time). Augustus's 30 legions would have something like 125,000 combatants. The MEU, though, would not have 2,000 combatants; it would have around 1,000. There is no question that 1,000 combat Marines, even ignoring artillery and tanks, could destroy any ancient army on the battlefield. It couldn't hold much territory, though, and so couldn't win wars against ancient foes like the Romans who didn't concentrate all their power in one family.
The Marines would arguably side with Augustus, though, not with his enemies. Augustus represented order and progress and Marines could identify with that.The dogmas of the quiet past, are inadequate to the stormy present. Siding with Augustus is the most likely outcome, I agree. Marines would be sensible enough to attach themselves to a stabilizing influence, one that could keep them fed for more than a month. Considering the positive perception we have of Rome and Augustus, I think it's especially likely. A thousand marines would be a tremendous benefit for the emperor, who could use them to be the elite of his army.John Brown did nothing wrong.Comment
