    +1

The ultimate in cherry picking - divorcing verses from their context.
“I give you a new commandment, that you love one another. Just as I have loved you, you also should love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.”

This is just more nonsense. Backed up by nothing. It's really starting to look dishonest.

            • Loinburger you don't know anything about this, and I don't expect you to.

The issue is whether it's good or bad to cherry pick the Bible. Proteus said it was wrong. Imran defended the practice. I challenged him to give some good reason. That reason is everyone does it. That is the most childish reasoning one could give. On top of that JM seems to like that reasoning as well.

At this point I'm going to leave it alone even though I'm offended. Sometimes people believe nonsense. And if they believe nonsense they don't have any reason. They're fools, and have no interest in wisdom.

              • If this is your level of respect for other Christians then you're a sad case indeed. So, at a rough estimate, how many people besides you are Correct in how they interpret the Bible?

                • Wait, let me see if I can predict your answer: "loinburger you are so dumb and your question is dumb and I am smart and I will not answer dumb questions from a dummy dumb dumbhead"

Does it concern you at all that you went from being the smartest person in the world on the subject of Communism to being the smartest person in the world on the subject of Christianity (smarter than all of the apolyton posters who have years more practice and experience than you)? Because this should trouble you.

The issue isn't that he has a different interpretation of the Bible than the majority.

The issue is that he doesn't think he is interpreting the Bible.

Or, in other words, the problem is that his is the only interpretation allowed (because, as you put it, he's "not interpreting" it), and those with differing interpretations are Sinful

                        • I don't think there is anything wrong with thinking you have the right interpretation.

Even that other interpretations are 'sinful'.

Thinking that you are not interpreting it means that you are incapable of theology though. And I think this is wrong, my interpretation of many Bible passages including Christ's 'carefully search the scriptures' is that we are suppose to seek understanding. Not pick out a verse, read it independently of the context/etc, and assume that the first thought that comes to mind is revealed by God.

                          • Well yeah, if you thought you had the wrong interpretation then you probably wouldn't stick to that interpretation (or at least you wouldn't defend it as strongly). There is something wrong with labeling all different interpretations as Sinful or Stupid or whatever. People should be allowed to disagree with you without being the spawn of Satan.

This. He's offended by differing interpretations/beliefs held by people who I would classify as "moderately to very devout." This is a problem.

It's one thing if he labels somebody like me as the retarded spawn of Satan, but he's extended that classification to pretty much everybody.

                                Definitely.

And I think this is biblically supported too.
