In order to train any martial art to the point where it becomes a matter of reflex, you need to put a lot of time and effort into it. You won't find any quick fixes. Pick something and be prepared to spend a few hours a day at it for several years before you get to the point of reflex speed and reaction.
No, what I meant was spending hours learning a karate kata would not be as effective as spending hours learning a close quarters combat form like krav maga or jiujutsu for what I need to use it for. I'm not looking for a quick fix. I'm looking for an effective fix. That being said, I have respect for karate and kungfu as well as other fighting forms.

Ah. I think I misunderstood you. I read your posts as saying "I want a quick fix and don't want to be bothered with all that nasty training".

Karate katas (and other martial arts "forms") are an important part of the training. The movements are repeated time and time again to groove them into the muscle memory so that they can be executed at reflex speed. They are not a substitute for sparring and other training, they supplement and support that training.
Libraries are state sanctioned, so they're technically engaged in privateering. - Felch

I need something that I can use in extremely close quarters. Arm bars, An elbow and knee vice a punch or kick. Of course, I plan to train. The question was what would be the better martial art for my needs, not whether or not I will train.
Once again, I am stating that spending time learning karate/kungfu katas would not be practical because once they are in my muscle memory, I would not be able to use them in the fighting space available to me. But I am not stating that they would not be practical for someone else. For example, I need my feet to be close to the ground so even if I had the space, several kicks that you learn in karate/kungfu, I would never use.
