Many people fought for the south for different reasons, just like the germans fighting in WW2. Most of the Germans were not fighting to kill jews, most of them were fighting for their homeland or what they perceived as right. I cannot fault white southerners who 1. may be related to persons who fought for the south and 2. ancestors may have had reasons other than slavery for fighting for the south.
Also the Civil War was not fault over slavery, It's true that the south seceded because they wanted to keep slavery but if the south would not have seceded there would not have been an emancipation. The same goes for WW2, it was not and never was about the concentration camps. It was about the Versailles treaty at the end of WW1, economics, imperialism and the fact that the Germans, french, italians and Brits historically don't play nice with eachother.
