Yeah, Bladensburg was an embarrassment. But that was America in its larval stage. The Rebs were fighting a much stronger and more developed Union.

And neither the Vietnamese nor the Taliban ever threatened DC the way the CSA did. Vietnam was just one crushing American victory after another, until the US just got tired of playing Whac-A-Mole.
            John Brown did nothing wrong.

It's an improvement on WW2 and on a par with Korea.
One day Canada will rule the world, and then we'll all be sorry.

                      As to the original topic:

I know both sides are to blame to some extent. But, for once, I think the lion's share of the you've-got-to-be-kidding-me-you-****ing-moron-jackasses exists, and it clearly lies on the GOP side.

The Dems are willing to give up a lot of their issues to get a debt deal worked out, but the GOP leadership is so craven and beholden to the Tea Party that they are completely unwilling to give up any of theirs.

The government we deserve, because we are a nation of giant ***** idiots.

What plan can I see from the Dem side can I see in order to get a sense of the issues they are willing to give up? Speeches don't count as plans or offers.

QFT. Obama's put nothing on the table in terms of actual details and his tax increases are nothing but an attempt to save face. His stance is inexcusable.

Obama's plan was to raise the deficit by $2 trillion. A Democrat-controlled Senate rejected that plan. Unanimously. I am at a loss as to how anyone could conceive of supporting a person whose own party unanimously rejected his budget when that budget supported a $2 trillion increase in the American federal debt. It is simply astounding. If I were a Democrat I'd push for a Democrat candidate to run against Obama. When your own party rejects and unanimously votes against your budget: that's the definition of madness.

Since that time, Obama has given a speech about the importance of reducing the deficit and "eating his peas." How did the CBO put it? "We don't estimate speeches."

The Democrats, for their part, have, in lieu of a budget plan for the last two years, offered silence and called for funding the ever-important Cowboy Poetry festivals.

I'm not saying the Republicans are the cure for all that ails you and that their policies are in every respect right and good. But between the party that has a plan to get away from bankruptcy and the party whose President disavowed the necessity of spending cuts in his own budget, and a Senate leadership that wallows in silence, I think the Republicans have it one up on the Democrats.

Frankly, I wish the Democrats had a sane leadership because I don't think Obama reflects the Democrat party as a whole. Now is not the time for Cowboy Festivals For America. Now is the time to pay back the federal debt.

Build your funeral pyre; beside it, my carpenters will build a gallows. You may follow your custom. And then we will follow ours."--General Sir Charles James Napier

                              1. The republicans haven't presented any reasonable plans. Ryan's has remained an embarrassment that most try to distance themselves from and cringe whenever it is brought up.

                              2. Boehner and McConnell have made some ridiculous speeches offering no plans or substance.

                              3. Obama has stated specific issues that he is willing to put on the table for cuts. In fact, he's been more specific than republicans.

                              4. This is not the time to pay back the federal debt and anyone who says that is either dishonest or retarded.

Hey, why don't they just vote to raise the debt ceiling? No one has given any reason to treat the deficit like it's some kind of emergency that must be eliminated immediately. I don't think a meteoroid is going to hit the US if we increase the national debt.
