Islam, being a more practical religion, does not prohibit a violent response as a reaction to wrong-doing and injustice... just as any of us can understand the concept of a righteous fight to overthrow oppression, the Qur'an does not ask a Muslim to turn the other cheek to only get struck again... unfortunately, these verses are the Qur'anic basis for the modern jihad,
"Fight in the cause of Allah those who fight you but do not transgress limits; for Allah loveth not transgressors. (190) And slay them wherever ye catch them, and turn them out from where they have turned you out; for tumult and oppression are worse than slaughter; but fight them not at the Sacred Mosque, unless they (first) fight you there; but if they fight you slay them. Such is the reward of those who suppress faith. (191) But if they cease, Allah is Oft-Forgiving Most Merciful. (192) And fight them on until there is no more tumult or oppression and there prevail justice and faith in Allah; but if they cease let there be no hostility except to those who practise oppression. (193) The prohibited month―for the prohibited month―and so for all things prohibited there is the law of equality. If then anyone transgresses the prohibition against you, transgress ye likewise against him. But fear Allah and know that Allah is with those who restrain themselves. (194) And spend of your substance in the cause of Allah, and make not your own hands contribute to (your) destruction; but do good; for Allah loveth those who do good. (195)" -Al Baqara 190-195I drank beer. I like beer. I still like beer. ... Do you like beer Senator?

The Christian way is the slave mentality. You take abuse and then turn your cheek to take more abuse. That is not an ideology for men but an ideology for slaves given by their oppressors."Flutie was better than Kelly, Elway, Esiason and Cunningham." - Ben Kenobi

This is afallen world, and oppression will always be with us, and those who claim to fight it will always use violence.

There will always be those who seek to steal, to torment, to oppress, to persecute, and to otherwise not follow the humility espoused by Jesus. An ideology telling the targets of oppression to accept their torment is an ideology patronized by the oppressor as such an ideology castrates the persecuted. It tells them to suffer their injustices, to sedate themselves to their pains, for an otherworldly reward. It is the ideology the despot imposes upon his subjects, the ideology the slave-owner teaches his slaves.
A man must not be perpetually violent but he must be ready and willing if the cause is just, ever-vigilant in safeguarding his rights and humanity. Islam provides the just avenue for righteous retribution as a bulwark against oppression and injustice. Christianity tells you to suffer in silence. One is the faith of men, the other, the faith of sheep.Last edited by Al B. Sure!; July 14, 2011, 21:12."Flutie was better than Kelly, Elway, Esiason and Cunningham." - Ben Kenobi

Martin Luther King was right and people like Malcolm X (How come he chose a Scottish Celtic name instead of a Muslim one?) who wanted violent confrontation were wrong. Martin Luther King was correct when he pointed out whites out numbered blacks in 1960's America 9 to 1, that they controlled the military, the police, and the economy. Open war would have resulted in defeat even more surely then the defeat of the south in the Civil War. Nonviolence not only achieved all of the goals of the civil rights struggle but it did it without destroying everything in the process; that wouldn't have happened if the fire brands had gotten their way. Gandhi was right when he said armed struggle by every day Indians couldn't defeat the might of the British Empire but moral superiority could and Martin Luther King was right that American blacks could achieve their goals as well via nonviolence.Last edited by Dinner; July 14, 2011, 21:57.Try http://wordforge.net/index.php for discussion and debate.

His mother named him Malcolm. He took the name Malik el-Shabazz but was popularly known as Malcolm X."Flutie was better than Kelly, Elway, Esiason and Cunningham." - Ben Kenobi

And it's not about the Civil Rights Movement. That's just one recent example where the difference in attitude between religions came into play."Flutie was better than Kelly, Elway, Esiason and Cunningham." - Ben Kenobi
