  • Is Zack Snyder trying to drive people into madness (movie rant)?

Seriously, will he stop using ridiculous, boring narrator parts in his movies at some point? I already hated this in "300". And I hated the kinda fantasy movie he made out of the historic topic, but as a rather simplistic action flick with cool visuals it was at least watchable.

Some days ago I tried to see "Watchmen" (they had it on tv). "Tried" because I did not manage to watch more than maybe the first 45 mins or so. Not only had the movie even more overdone, boring narrator parts, the whole part I saw was veeery boring to watch, despite the violent stuff. The story seemed rather confused and didn't move forward. From the beginning with the Bob Dylan song the movie felt like they wanted to make some important points that go beyond the ordinary comic blockbuster action stuff, just that they never seemed to arrive.

Well, maybe it's just that I have no idea of comics. But there are some other comic movies I don't like too much, but I didn't feel such a growing sense of aversion while watching them....Bah. /end

I've never seen a comic book made into a good film. The people who think it's good have read the comics, or have no taste in movies.

I like most comic book inspired films. Asher is just mad there weren't any Mighty Ducks comic books back in the day...

Don't watch "Suckerpunch." There's nothing done right with that movie. Including the poor, poor narrator parts. Zack Snyder should be tried for crimes against humanity.

As for comic books made into movies: Apparently, Batman: Year one is being made into an animated movie that nearly directly follows the book.

Wasn't Rorschach the narrator in "Watchmen"? If so, how the **** can you call the narrator "boring"? Jackie Earle Haley was by far the best thing about that movie (far behind in second was Dr. Manhattan's digital schlong).

At minimal, the last two batman movies were awesome. The problem with most comic book movies is that they have too please a large variety of people and the film execs will dilute them in an attempt to make it so.

I think you're selling the performance of The Comedian short, not to mention Malin Ackerman's tits.

****. I stand corrected, on both counts.

I think a larger problem is that comic book characters ,for the most part, are just not that interesting to the general public but the desire to monetize and entire genre of entertainment by putting it the silverscreen over-rides that. Some examples are Green Lantern and Daredevil. Either that or the scripts written are just really really poor and don't make a hell of a lot of sense (I'd say that Hollywood's aversion to original scripts/stories is something that isn't new, it just hasn't been so obvious). I'd also say that the production values vary too wildly.

Not sure where that "short" came from; anyway, do you mean "both counts" as in Comedian and the tits, or just the tits? Because I'm right thrice over.

If space aliens visited us who had no concept of "boredom" they would understand it immediately when being confronted with this Rorschach narration ****, and would probably commit collective suicide out of shock and desperation.

I liked the Dark Knight, the previous one was okish IMO, but nothing great or special.

I'm counting the tits as one glorious entity.

Hmmm. I guess Rorschach is similar enough in personality to the average German that it is possible that you would find him boring, much like the Japanese listening to the narration of a suicidal celibate.

Indeed. Shame about the acting, though.

(She's quite talented as a comedic actress; action/adventure/drama, not her strength.)

True, but it wasn't a crucial role. Ozymandias, on the other hand...

Yes. I am of two minds over the film's biggest failing: turning the heroes hyper-violent and turning the gore way up, or the abysmal casting of Ozymandias. As much as I find the man laughable, it seems like the role Tom Cruise was born to play.
