Introduce me to good rock music

I've heard of that song but I don't think I've ever heard it. Doesn't ring any bells.

I did see that this was sampled by DJ Green Lantern on a Fort Minor song called "SCOM" (Sweet Child of Mine abbreviated I guess ).

That sounds musically a lot better to me than the original does. Can you understand why that beat that sampled it sounds a lot more appealing aesthetically than the original?

I'm just saying... the differences in musical structure between the original and the sampled beat is the crux of my entire struggle to even stand a lot of this rock music.

I'm trying to understand what is this distinction between the rock I like and the rock you all like.

Which I like... to me, that sounds like an entirely different genre than Guns N Roses and the stuff Ozzy and Laz posted. To me, that sounds like the same genre as that Fort Minor beat that sampled Guns N Roses. The sound of it, the vibe of it, the instrumentation, whatever... just jives with me and sounds completely distinct from this other rock.

I'm not trying to do what you think I am doing. I'm trying to understand. Whatever difference there is in OneRepublic vs. Guns N Roses is the critical difference to me that makes OneRepublic incredibly listenable to me (I can listen to their songs on repeat ad infinitum) and something like Guns N Roses which I want to turn off 30 seconds in.

They're both rock. But why does one have so much appeal to me but the other one is either or

I would go from your own tastes are far as hip hop, R and B, even movies and TV. I tend to like people who work with or are sampled by groups/artists I already like. I discovered some great songs that way.
I completely agree with you about vocals. If I were you I would check out the movie immortal beloved it has some interesting comments on classical music.
If I were going to recommend some songs to you I would start with the violent femmes because they are close to rap, have great lyrics, energy and only scream sometimes. Blister in the sun, Add it up.
Beck - Everybody's got to learn sometimes.
Johnny Cash - Folsom Prison Blues. I don't care if it is country.

The Police - So many too name --Roxanne, Can't stand losing you, Invisible sun.
You have got to listen to the dog days are over. That's a great song.
There's many more but I think that these have great music, lyrics and singing

The Police is good. Can't say I'm very familiar with them beyond Every Breath You Take and Roxanne, though, and Sting's solo hits, obviously.

I'm familiar with Folsom Prison Blues. It's okay.

Actually everything you suggested is okay. I can't see me listening to it often though. None of it is really drawing me in either.

But what is the difference musically between Guns N Roses and OneRepublic? I'm not talking about value. What is the difference? As an objective, statement of fact, with regards to the sound?

Whatever that difference is is the reason for my complete divergence in preferences between two groups that are nominally both rock.

One of the ironic highlights of my days in the industry was playing 18 holes of golf with Vinnie Paul and Rex Brown from Pantera. They found it to be a relaxing break from the hard rock touring lifestyle. True story.

I would guess their style is far too thrashy and distortion-driven for Alby's tastes.

OneRepublic isn't even a real band. It's basically Ryan Tedder's project. Ryan Tedder is a pop music writer (Beyonce, Leona Lewis, etc.).

It's very very loosely rock music, it's pop-rock...heavily leaning towards pop.
