I find it interesting when a song builds you up then just cuts you off. I like the effect.

Another song that does the same thing to me:
"The issue is there are still many people out there that use religion as a crutch for bigotry and hate. Like Ben."

If it sings like a girl it's probably a girl.

Okay everybody's posting too much and these songs are pretty long. Slow down.

Black Crowes is okay, I guess. I couldn't really listen to that more than once, though.

Loggins and Massina (through computer speakers, mind you)... The singing was pretty country-like which is a turn-off. The instrumentation sounded great. Nice fusion sound with some great baselines... sax solo... then the guitar comes in... The music is banging. But I wouldn't call this rock, would you? It's musically more similar to some Ramsey Lewis or Roy Ayers. The country singing though... gah... that's what ruins, for me, the music that Slowwhand usually posts in the music thread.

Not easy. At the top of my head:

                - Elvis Presley
                - The Doors
                - Frank Zappa
                - R.E.M

                - Velvet Underground

I meant classic rock as a musical style, that their music is quite close to pure unadulterated rock, I did not mean that they are a classic rock band.

now this was a hit in the early 90's, the song is much better than the video which looks outdated and ridiculously 90s

                      Fixed.

I was youtubing around and ran across this gem. It reminded me that great rock is really about live performance. These guys made their money doing softer, radio-friendly fare, but they were a powerful live act, and this song was a highlight for me. (Saw them in college, circa 1973.)

Oh, another quick note: Alby, do NOT listen through your comp speakers. You need full range reproduction.

That's not even the best Loggins & Messina song...

While Jrabbit is clearly wrong, you'd be on even stronger ground if you specified that British rock bands are vastly superior to their American counterparts. The United States has produced some great rock artists, but very few great rock bands.

                                american bands?

                                Jimmy Hendrix
                                The Doors
                                Kansas
                                Aerosmith

                                Boston
                                Lynyrd Skynyrd
                                Journey
                                REO Speedwagon
                                REM
                                Metallica
                                Jefferson Airplane

and for those who think the Starship cant rock, check the guitar jam on this song

there's just so many good bands from the USA, but Rush and Pink Floyd are my favorites
