I like OneRepublic and Maroon 5 better than Coldplay, etc. though. OneRepublic is the ****.

The song I'm digging most right now is Bon Iver - Calgary. IT HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH THE SONG NAME. Coincidence. It's the single off his Album which came out last week.

But you need to be in the right mindset to enjoy it.

"The issue is there are still many people out there that use religion as a crutch for bigotry and hate. Like Ben."

It depends on what you want out of music.

Agreed, it's a pretty tough assignment. The good stuff wasn't radio-friendly for the most part. Seems like he should troll through the power names (Zeppelin, The Who, Springsteen, etc.) and tell us what he likes out of that.

I was youtubing around and ran across this gem. It reminded me that great rock is really about live performance. These guys made their money doing softer, radio-friendly fare, but they were a powerful live act, and this song was a highlight for me. (Saw them in college, circa 1973.)

Oh, another quick note: Alby, do NOT listen through your comp speakers. You need full range reproduction.

For modern pop-rock which may be more your thing...

            That's enough for now.

Boring until they picked up 2+ minutes in then the song ended abruptly (). If I was setting up that song's structure, I would chop up that lengthy quiet intro. The singers are unintelligible though. No thanks. I need to know what my singers are saying.

Gaaah. You would brutalize the song. It's supposed to be surreal and haunting. It's why it's memorable to me.

90's isn't my definition of classic rock. I guess it's a sliding scale.

Dude it's a perpetual hanger-on effect that they're doing. I like that affect where the tension builds slowly and then there's a powerful segment and then it quiets back and repeats. Like how "I want to know what love is" is set up. That song is perfectly set up like that. The verses being that slow build, adding more instrumentation, then transitioning into the "In my life..." which builds and builds then pow, "I want to know what love is" with the gospel choir!

That is beautiful. That is perfectly structured.

The Calgary song you posted keeps teasing at the culmination of the build for 2 entire minutes. That **** is actually nearly painful for me. Not pain but there's a mental agony of sorts that comes over me when the build up isn't resolved.

Anyone else know what I'm talking about? I mentioned this when analyzing one of Cockney's own electronic music creations. I can't describe it.

Dude, it MUST be resolved! And not take 2+ minutes for it! Gah! That **** is agonizing.

Sounds pretty sexist. Do you think all women sing like Bon Iver?
