So my old carpet has about had it and I've got a few options on what to replace it with. I could go with some ok but not great nylon carpet which would be cheapest, I could go with some real honest to goodness hard wood floors (which is expensive and scratches but looks great), I could go with mid grade laminate flaux hard wood floors (which is actually pretty cost effective and long lasting but looks like crap), or I could go for a nice wool carpet like Berber. My girlfriend likes the Berber while I like the real wood flooring. She worries that the hard wood floors will scratch necessitating costly refinishing plus she says she doesn't want her feet to get cold (Me: "Put on socks") while I worry that real wool carpet will be a nightmare to clean especially after I talk her into letting me have a dog.
What say you oh sages of Apolyton? Any advice on home flooring or should I just rip it all out and and live caveman style on the bare concrete floors? I'm also interested in putting marble tile in the kitchen and bathrooms instead of the old linoleum but I need to see how much of my savings she can spend on flooring before I start the next project.
