that is one of the differences between housing standards on the continent and in the UK (or what people find acceptable) - proper wooden flooring is rare and even more expensive in UK than usual, so having pine floor is excellent, and I believe Cort that he likes it - especially compared to what you normally get which is carpets, or relatively often these days, but still in minority - laminates.
However proper oakwood floor is the old standard which Europeans figured out ages ago, and well - stick to it, if you can get it, you are set for life... but that is a bit counter US/UK lifestyle as people there comparatively move a lot so making a bigger investment "to last for generations" is not that popular.Socrates: "Good is That at which all things aim, If one knows what the good is, one will always do what is good." Hard wood it is! We spent much of yesterday looking at flooring first at Home Depot & Lowe's but honestly the stuff at the small family owned places looked nicer and the service personnel were much more knowledgeable and friendly. We're still trying to decide exactly what type of wood with what stain/finish but I've definitely won her over to hard wood. The one thing I can say for certain is I don't like the grain on any of the oak wood I've seen so far and pine seems too soft a wood to use. Does anyone have experience with different types of wood in terms of hardness, color, or grain patterns?
Edit: We saw a Walnut floor yesterday which I really liked though the color it comes stained was a bit too dark for me. I was told we could special order it unstained but that special orders cost more. Money really isn't that big an issue but I don't want to get ripped off either.Last edited by Dinner; June 12, 2011, 14:56.Try http://wordforge.net/index.php for discussion and debate.
