Sure, absolutely, maybe, can't tell.
It's a business. It's a business! Even though it's an art, it's run by businessmen and women. The goals are to make a profit!!! The ability of a filmmaker to make his/her next film is largely based on sales. Filmmakers that can't make money have trouble getting financed for another movie and they have trouble getting distribution because it all costs money and everyone wants to make a profit in the business.
If you were the gatekeeper/decision maker at Sony, fox or a major film distributor and you had a choice between investing in a film that you knew would ABSOLUTELY NOT be viewed by 50 percent of the MOVIE GOING PUBLIC based on the content and that maybe SOME percent of the other 50 percent would watch the film vs investing in the action flic Transformers 3, I believe that you would put your money on Transformers 3.
