Ethnic cleansing refers to geographic areas. The israeli settlements are gradually reducing the amount of territory owned by palestinians.

yep. the israelis talk about peace and a two state solution, while at the same time the settlements continue to expand, making a potential palestinian state less viable with each passing day.

The settlements do not preclude arabs from also living in the area. The loss of sovereignty or, rather, failure to gain sovereignty does not constitute "ethnic cleansing" in any sense of the term.

It's nice to see that at least one country still plays to win.

No, I understood it--I just don't believe the two-state solution could ever work anyways so the fact that Israel pidgeonholes Palestine doesn't bother me in the slightest.

Ethnic cleansing is the removal of a group from an area. This isn't removal. They just don't run the government.

Great. Should our government give Israel money?

The Israelis don't "play to win"; if they did, they wouldn't be in their current predicament.

Israel pidegeonholes palestinians on purpose in order to put economic pressure on them so that they'll be tempted to seek opportunities abroad. At which point Israel will look for any excuse to deny them re-entry into their homeland. Ethnic cleansing.

                      1. Hell yeah it should, they've been very useful to us over the years. They're the only country in the region we can actually count on, but they'd be crushed if we were unwilling to support them. The amount we pay them is pocket change compared to our federal budget and the amount of intelligence they provide as well as the foothold in the region we get from them is extremely valuable.

                      2. Even if you think we shouldn't, I think Bibi's speech to Congress the other day is a pretty good indicator that most Americans think Israel is important to support, so you're seriously in the minority.

Gribbler, the settlements actually produce wealth for the palestinians. Palestinians living in Israel proper are substantially wealthier than those in Palestine. The ones that have decided they're willing to live alongside jews have profited immensely from living in the state of Israel.

The idea that Jews in Palestine creates economic pressure for Palestinians to leave is positively absurd.

                            To do what, exactly?

What services has Israel rendered that are worth tens of billions of dollars?

That's not what I said, idiot. Arabs in Israel can vote, in case you hadn't noticed.

We can conclude that Israel has been good to the arabs of the West Bank because they are much poorer than arabs living elsewhere? Wut?
