The reason your attrition rate is so high is because the bright people recognize that you are likely a disrespectful busybody manager and steer well clear. The 135 of people who responded aren't the brightest, they may be some of the dumbest. The way you tell the story, it sounds like you're finding the best two people of thousands. That's not at all what is happening.

In my industry, attrition is generally much higher than in my case. I just do better pre-selection.
