We do plan to create a firepit for back behind the cabin but will have some true campfires out on the sandbars by the lake-- The lake is has many sandbars and a beach campfire can be awesome

OK, if you're going used then I'd look at a Toyota 4Runner with the V8 option so you can tow 5000 lbs though their V6 might be able to do that albet without as much vigor. For the best deals often the discontinued brand names sell at big discounts used so a Hummer H3 (a shortened Chevy Suburban) would likely be a pretty good deal in the $18k-$25k price range for a 2-4 year old one. It will have a large Chevy V8 so they'll be powerful for towing and are rock solid.

Those would be options but I am a little fixated on the idea of a truck so that I can also carry heavier amd messier loads without needing a trailer for that (and also have the option to toss the bicycle in the back without needed to mount them on the bike rack

The whole point of the recreation property is to be in the middle of nowhere. Who needs to be around a lot of people all the time--we get that enough here in the city. At the rec property we are more likely to encounter deer or elk. (although we do have neighbors on the adjacent 5 acre parcels)

But the nearest police station is only 20 minutes drive away. They however will not bother anyone with respect to a campfire unless the forest fire risk is up enough that a fire ban is in place.

Seriously though

1. everyone wears life jackets-- I am a reasonably strong swimmer but I don't ever want to be forced to be swimming long distances--
2. Quiet INSIDE isn't the point- its just to be somewhere away from the rush of the city life-- If you ever expereinced it you would understand (or perhaps YOU wouldn't since you seem a different sort of guy)
