well the chances of a muslim or a hindu, or a sikh becoming king were about zero for the whole of our history, whereas catholic kings were a burning issue a few centuries ago.

I'm just saying when your already writing papers on who can and can't be king/queen you had mine as well have included everyone who wouldn't be tolerated as king at the same time.

Putting "Hindu" or "Muslim" in there would be as about anachronistic as having the US constitution limiting the presidency to humans and excluding AIs or aliens.
Modern man calls walking more quickly in the same direction down the same road “change.”
The world, in the last three hundred years, has not changed except in that sense.
The simple suggestion of a true change scandalizes and terrifies modern man. -Nicolás Gómez Dávila

Hmmm point well made still. What about atheists?

Well there was this whole business:

I'm not implying that King Offa of Mercia was a Muslim, even though that coinage contains the Kalima. There's enough historical evidence to shut down that assertion.

It's still amusing though so I brought it up.

It's just as well. The 10p coin featured a lion, but I'm fairly sure The Queen still can't take down a Wildebeeste with her teeth.

I'm not so sure about that.

Why do we still tolerate this anachronism? Get rid of the bloody lot of 'em.

By the way, the supposed story of that Mercian coin is humorous. That coin was found in Rome and is believed to have been one of hundreds of such coins sent by King Offa to the Pope (Peter's Pence sort of thing)... Yes, Offa sent coinage, which contained the Islamic declaration of faith, to the POPE!

So either the Pope's people had no idea what it meant or they figured gold is gold, no matter what is written on it.

Thinkaboutit. Whenever Harry (or anyone in the UK) goes to a strip club he always takes several pictures of his nan and gives them to the strippers.
