A few centuries ago they never considered the possibility... Chatolics however where a oppressed militant minority with support from abroad and some sympathizers among the countries elite. I mean didn't the Pope rule that a Catholic killing Elizabeth wouldn't really be committing a sin (Popes used to have balls like Muslims in those days)?
A Muslim or Hindu king was unimaginable because there where none of them in England and they assumed they would never be. Groups like the Lutherans where too small ... and a Jewish King?
