I think of it as the necessary deep breath after the nonstop bat**** insanity that is the last half of book 3.

I love it. I think we need to see how all the war and turmoil has affected the average schmuck, and Brienne's story, especially, is critical to that.

I didn't dislike 4, but it wasn't a page-turner the way the previous books were. All of the books so far have had wide-ranging storylines, but with the first 3 there were always intersections that made it come together into a coherent whole. This book just felt too disconnected, as if I were reading half a dozen different, very long stories simultaneously.

See, I'm in a significant minority in that I think book 4 is the second-best one. But, folks who discount 4 tend to think 5 is a step up; it certainly gets more action-focused later in the book. One storyline in 5, in particular, is absolutely fantastic, and it is a character you wouldn't expect.

Okay, I finally finished A Feast for Crows. That was... long... but it was worth it just to see

Someone tell me A Dance with Dragons has more going for it.

the bits with princess perkytits in are basically Mereen, 90210. Barristan the bold gets a few good scenes, though.

I'm just curious why an obese old man who doesn't look in the best of health is pissed people are worried he might die before finishing the series given his procrastination streak. Fat people are supposed to be jolly.

Hell, Stieg Larson was only 50 and in pretty good shape yet he keeled over while, as the article pointed out, the author of the Wheel of Time series also keeled over with the story left unfinished. It seems to happen all to often to authors who's book series I love.
