Yup, they needed someone who could pull off the right kind of stare, and I think they found him. Looks enough like Jaime's actor as well that you get the family resemblance.

Excellent casting of Tywin Lannister. Charles Dance is one creepy mother****er.

I haven't watched this yet, but a friend of mine who hadn't read the books said that she found it better than a sleeping pill for inducing a nap. And she loves Elizabethan costume dramas.

Once the first season is done airing you could read the first book and that shouldn't spoil much of anything. Just only read what's already been shown on TV

Having finished the novel over my vacation in the hills, at the risk of spoiling things... you won't have to put up with this sort of thing for much longer.Originally posted by Bugs ****ing Bunny View PostBrilliant! Princess Blondie Perkytits gets to eat the heart of a horse! Because if there's one thing that godawful sub-plot needed, it was more horse symbolism!
It's getting beyond parody.
There are all sorts of changes coming up that took me by surprise.

I did get a chuckle out of the imp killing a barbarian with a shield, they could have done that better

I agree about Brian Blessed as King Shoutypants. btw. He's probably getting on a bit now though.

Of course it's fine that you have an opinion about an aspect of the story - I just thought you were somewhat dramatically overstating it. Furthermore, I don't want to argue about it much beyond pointing out that you were making rather a fuss - albeit entertainingly as ever.Originally posted by Bugs ****ing Bunny View PostWhy are you trying to argue against an opinion on a completely subjective issue? You have only one life to live.
I would say that in Fantasy scenarios we are, by definition, required to suspend disbelief. If you think that the Horsey folks are overdoing the horsey aspect of things then is that really any less absurd than a bloke who thinks he's a dragon, a wall several hundred feet high, a winter that lasts a decade, or any other bizzaro devices? It's only pretend.

no, stop beeing stupied. i dont give a **** if you hate the show or like it. but the dragon lady plot isnt as dumb as you try to make it. bit rushed maybe. but no where near "beyond parody"Originally posted by Bugs ****ing Bunny View PostAnother one. "OH THIS SHOW IS SO MANIFESTLY BRILLIANT THAT NO MAN CAN HONESTLY FIND FAULT WITH ANY ASPECT OF IT!!!! AND ANY ATTEMPT TO DO SO WILL BE CONSTRUED AS A PERSONAL ATTACK ON ME PERSONALLY!!!"

Among readers of the books a LOT of people really hate the Dany sub-plot and skip it during rereads, so Laz really isn't alone in that even compared to people who read the books over and over. Personally I like the Dany subplot a lot since it's the sort of over the top stuff that belongs in a Conan story and I LIKE Conan stories.
I wonder what Laz will think about The Lord of Light
Personally one of my criticisms of the story is that until the later books the depictions of religion tend to be pretty damn shallow. It gets better (the fourth book nails religion) but not for a while.
