How do they milk dollars out of it? HBO doesn't run ads.
They still have to pay for programming every time they air it; unless they reuse old programming which they already own the rights to (like a show which HBO produced itself).
HBO is planning a Game of Thrones marathon ahead of the season 4 premier. It is a way to milk a few extra dollars out of old episodes, to catch people up on the series, and to (most importantly) build up anticipation for the new season.
Never read it before, but I see the publishing date is january 2013.
