Legal proscriptions re adultry were very recently on the books in most Western jurisdictions, for instance.
So you admit that a majority of the Commandments are not used in modern Western Law? You do realize you are basically making the argument that "The 10 Commandments are totally important to the Law! There's uh, perjury, and Murder, and stealing and, uh...well a few decades ago Adultery in some jurisdictions!"

Now, I'm willing to extend to you that some places Blue laws are still used, but on a national level? Just 3(or 4, if you're in the military). of the 17 Commandments.

D'oh! Forgot about the Irish Blasphemy law, as I was.

But in the United States? My point still stands.

What is going on today has f' all to do with your statement about the influence of Judaism through Christianity on Roman law.

Considering it was a Christian who codefied the Roman law that survived the period.

You do know that the religiousity of the person does not nessecarily bear upon the crafting of civil law, don't you? Kitzmiller v. Dover Area School District kinda drove that point home.

Yeah. It's not like Roman emperors did not use religion and law to enforce their own views of how their states should work. or NOT.

Seriously. This is like kicking kittens. Do you want to continue?

Maybe the fact that his efforts resulted in Canon Law should provide a clue for you to shut up now?

Fine, the Church has a history of subverting the state. I completely concede that.

And Church law that came from Roman law written down by Christians dominated Europe until the Enlightenment, and a bit longer. It is in our lifetimes that the last of the moral shackles are being shed, in most places.

Really, Lonestar, you should familiarise yourself with this. The raison d'etre of your Republic lies in these issues.

Okay...So to return to my intial comment to HC: the 10(17) Commandments are not important from a legal standpoint. They are only important insomuch as they were part of a religious group that subverts the state. Only 3 of those commandments are done at a national level(4 if you're in the Military), and other religious groups have managed to figure those out without to 10(17) Commandments.
