Don't bite the hand that feeds. Beggars such as Quebec should keep quiet.

Not the reverse, the same. The flood of Anglos from Quebec in the 70's and 80's was massive. My best friend in grade school was from a family of Anglo refugees. You might want to consider this when you are grasping for reasons why Quebec is a perennial basket-case (it was absent from the list you presented earlier).

It is guaranteed whatever Canadian politician is making that decision will have little incentive to cater to Quebec interests at that point. In fact doing so, after Quebec succession, would be political suicide. We'll humour the province if there is a reason but take away the reason and you'll find out what it is truly like to be alone.

I said it was a long story.

In reality GDP growth per capita is nearly the same in Quebec and Ontario since the 70s.

There is way, way too much interprovincial trade for anything like this to ever happen.
There is also way too much trade between New England and Quebec for the American governors not to intervene.

                  • FWIW, unemployment in Quebec is below Ontario and BC for the first time in meaningful memory. We've also been below or on the Canadian average for a few years. We're on the right track, don't worry.

It's called honesty. Something in short supply from the separatists.

Excellent. I look forward to no further equalization transfers to Quebec.

Too bad I won't live to see it.

Why don't you answer the point?

With massive fossil fuels revenue from other provinces, it's going to be tough, but it's not impossible.

                          • Why do you all bother so much with transfers to Quebec, while those to Manitoba/the Maritime leave you indifferent?

(The answer is obvious, I'm interested in your wording of it).

                            • I think the feeling is that Quebec should not need to be in a permanent state of needing equilization. Also, I think there is a perception that the finances of Confederation get tilted a bit in favour of Quebec in order to bribe voters there to vote no whenever the subject may come up.

                              • It also grates that people who receive welfare in the billions annually hold some sort of sword over all of our heads, and signs are that they think holding this sword is a good thing to do.
