Well, maybe the second toughest after the Royal Marines.

The fitness test is harder, the selection is harder.

US Marine training is 10 weeks, Royal Marines is 32 weeks.

    • I also wouldn't hire someone if their resume had a large gap in employment. It just looks terrible. If Al is dead set on a military job then join one of the other branches as they're larger and have more openings which also means more chances for career advancement but if the military is out then check for a different government job as even in the ghetto you can find those. Failing that you might want to consider a job in the US Foreign Service and work at one of the embassies or something.

The Legion is 15 weeks basic training.

That does make it harder to get a job, but it is not insurmountable.

It depends why they have a gap. Some people have very good reasons, and in the current economic climate it's less unusual. But I'd also expect to see really good evidence they'd been doing something productive in the mean time.

I'd certainly expect technical people to have really good evidence that they'd done lots of other technical stuff outside work.

              "a" year?

By the way, the reason albie is so fixated on officer kindergarten is that (as he has described in exquisite detail previously) he believes that this will allow him to get into a top MBA program and from there into banking.

This is bad advice, because you don't understand the structure of US resumes

                  • At the most albie needs a one-sentence "objective" statement which should be tailored to each job he sends a resume out to.

But even that is a bit silly, because he is not really an experienced hire for any job (other than supervisor of fast food). If he's applying to anything else, what he's selling is:

                    a) That he's college-educated
                    b) That he's had a job with some responsibility before

yeah you should totally do that. then you can wow them with stories of your extensive travels and great knowledge of the world outside the philly ghetto.
