  • Compare political discourse and broadcast news in Canada and the USA. Which is more informative and unbiased? It's really no contest.

On what basis do you claim this is the result of the (never-used) regulation? I don't see how you would have any usable data.

    • I need my government to keep those nasty liars from talking because I'm too stupid to figure out it is nonsense for myself! Thank god for censorship! I might even have to draw my own conclusions if not for that wonderful word!
If there is no sound in space, how come you can hear the lasers?

There is, to my knowledge, no good data stating this unambiguously. Most or all of the widely-cited studies are fundamentally flawed by not accounting for certainty of belief, or other flaws (evolution polls in particular are typically flawed in posing).

Moreover, it's not clear how widespread ignorance is really the same thing as "partisanship, venom, and lies".

Yeah, I'm just going to crunch the numbers and get back to you on this sociological question.

          • How is that even related to whether censorship is good? This is coming from the guy who was so pro-wikileaks. It's almost as if Asher is just against anything in line with American policy...

I'll take that as a concession.

              • I took it as sarcasm.

                • btw, even the "ignorant" Americans appear to follow the simple rule of voting against the party in power if the country is doing poorly, which is socially useful.

Ahhhhh there we go. It must be anti-American! Why not call me an anti-semite and jump to the conclusion?

Censorship, in general, is not good. But some form of censorship is useful for the good of society. America agrees with this as well, your law has many examples of limitations to freedom of speech.

It is not unreasonable that broadcast news, an authoritative organization, should not spread known falsehoods. Your argument that "what's false to some people may not be false to others" or whatever is a load of bull****.

It's still computing. You can't rush this kind of data. The formulae are complex.

OK, I know how that is. Keep working on it

Some day you'll realize the world is full of nuance and exceptions to the rule.

                            • Let me get that Roberts quote for you again, in case you forgot already, Asher:

'The First Amendment's guarantee of free speech does not extend only to categories of speech that survive an ad hoc balancing of relative social costs and benefits. The First Amendment itself reflects a judgment by the American people that the benefits of its restrictions on the Government outweigh the costs. Our Constitution forecloses any attempt to revise that judgment simply on the basis that some speech is not worth it.'"

How much more obvious can I make it that I really don't give a **** what people from centuries ago thought or wrote down?
