But guess what? The Marine Corps was not disbanded in 1947 even though the Army and various powerful people tried their damnedest using the SAME arguments YOU are making.

People far more knowledgeably about defense than you ultimately grudgingly accepted the Corps.

Asher, the Marines are the expeditionary force and the Army is the force that gets deployed once the ground has been cleared. They both have roles to play.

No, because there's no ****ing reason why there can't be an Army Expeditionary Force...

There needs to be three services:
GROUND forces.
AIR forces.
NAVAL forces.

Airplanes belong in the AIR FORCES.
Soldiers on the ground belong in the GROUND FORCES.
Ships belong in the NAVAL FORCES.

It's that simple. You can have specialty units in each if you so choose. But to give them their own service is just retarded and pointless overhead.

It makes no sense for an expeditionary force to be peacekeepers or police forces in occupied lands.

How does it not make sense? The Marine Corps can deploy much faster and have a lighter footprint so to speak so they require less infrastructure to operate than the Army does. Get in, take out the bad guys, and distribute UN aide. The Corps has been doing that stuff for a while.
