Fortunately, HC, most of us share the same idea of success in a career: not getting killed, not having to kill people, getting paid enough to buy the things we need and hopefully the things we want.
Those are pretty common general standards of success. I think the US military doesn't hit any of them.
Other people could undoubtedly define success differently. They love killing people, they love the risk of getting killed, and they don't need money because they're going to just mooch off other people or scrape by on very little.
