  • I had to go to bed, Wezil. I live roughly 12 hours off of a normal Central timezone life.

The Wiconsin legislature and Governorship was great and very respected, until now. Walker has come in, destroyed that respect and split the state (and appearently alot of the nation as well) in a matter of less than 2 months and is not willing to negotiate about it. Its one of the big discussions here in Wisconsin. People here are shocked at how rapidly he has ruined things.

    • I am actually very hopeful that this partisan attack on workers' rights will end up not becoming law.

      • Hang on a minute. How come when government workers in Wisconsin face the threat of being treated about the same as government workers in Virginia, it's an assault on worker's fundamental rights, but the fact that Virginia (and just about every other southern state) doesn't have such laws is no big deal?

Let me get this straight--it's okay if you don't have collective bargaining, but if you try to take collective bargaining away from the people who already have it it's akin to repealing the first amendment?

        • This thread is about Wisconsin, not Virginia.

          • After contemplating my previous post I lit a yahrzeit candle and will be holding a moment of silence for the poor, oppressed firemen and police officers in Fairfax County who lack their god-given collective bargaining rights.

That would be a good name for it. It's just some mumbo-jumbo the republicans will surely ban once they are done taking away our other fundamental rights like universal healthcare and labor monopolies.

You're logic is correct. People who work hard for something should have it taken away by the government, without complaint.

The purpose of the legislation is quite clear. In the last election of the top ten political campaign funding sources seven of them were either companies or PACs made up of companies which tilted heavily towards Republicans; this is a result of the Citizens United case which was EXTREMELY partisan where the partisan Republican majority on the SCotUS literally removed over 100 years of campaign finance laws and now allows corporations and/or wealthy individuals to spend unlimited amounts of money to buy politicians. The only three democratic funding sources in the top ten were all unions so Republicans have made a national plan to break unions thus depriving Democrats of a key funding source. That's why the Republicans want to make it illegal for employers to automatically deduct union dues from pay checks if the employee opts to do so, they know that will mean less funds for unions, that's why they're trying to remove the right to collectively bargain because they know that will make unions irrelevant, that's why they've tried to pass laws so that any union member can opt out of political campaign donations even though shareholders of corporations are not allowed to do the same. It's all about trying to remove the other guy's source of funds and manpower. In short, it's just blatant partisanship and an attempt to erect legalistic restrictions to harm the other side. It's extremely anti-Democratic in nature.

Neither the top ten overall donors nor the top ten individual donors lists shows seven of them leaning Republican. In fact, in both cases there were more Democrat-leaning donors in the top ten than Republicans! Stop lying you sad sack of crap.

Lies, as usual. Maddow had a great piece on this a while back.

                              • I'll try to find the actual MSNBC article on this but it seems it's no longer on their website (they only keep videos from the last few days up).

It's nice to see DinoDoc is still a lying sack of dog **** though.
