  • So the republicans remove the fiscial portions of the "Budget Repair Bill" so that it doesn't need a quarum. Is Walker going to continue claiming that this bill was about repairing the budget and not about killing unions?

You said that he was better than the others much later. The point is that your argument is that Krugman is a liar because everyone lies. Then the issue becomes, why single out Krugs?

Where did I say he never lied? Both you and Ogie should pay more attention to what is actually written here than what you think is written. You'll save yourself a lot of embarrassment.

I'll agree that "not this time" wasn't relevant at that time, but your outrage was hilarious and you should get the pole out of your ass. BUT the Krugs is quite biased and I would hesitate using him as a reliable source. He bends the truth.
Outrage, I just made a simple comment about it. I tried being polite until you turned into an ass about it. Again, read what is actually there, not what you think is there.

        1. It's not really removal in the sense that they will now just pass the rest of the bill when the democrats inevitably return. In the end they are passing the exact same law, the fact that certain portions fall under the purview of separate parliamentary rules doesn't mean that the collective bargaining can't, in practice, be about reducing the deficit.
        2. I think it's already been brought up that counties can't fix their part of the budget without killing collective bargaining. Many local governments are running deficits as well.

          • Gotta say, this thread is really turning into something interesting. Almost as good as the ol' CanPol threads.

It was brought up by you, but not well supported.

Given that the quintessential "nuclear option" we've all heard of is defined by majority action, how is the term not apt here? It doesn't even have a negative connotation.

You are correct. Rah did mentioned it earlier than I thought. I guess being mistaken makes me a liar. Do you agree? Or are you overreacting?

However, my point remains. Rah, do you really believe that google search means anything? Serious question.

I don't think either party came out looking good in this whole fiasco. However, it's Walker who will likely end up paying most of the political cost for it.

                      • I doubt it. He scored a victory against the public unions, a group long untouchable in state politics. Other governors are going to see this as a victory, not a defeat. Already Idaho has followed suit and eliminated collective bargaining, LIFO, tenure and automatic union dues from paychecks. Ohio and Tennessee look likely to pass similar laws as well. I think I read that Michigan was even considering passing some form of anti-union legislation.

Virginia might even enshrine right to work in the state constitution if Republicans take control of the state senate this November, which they probably will.

                        • But the public won't. The last polls favored the unions. What is convincing you otherwise?

                          • I don't have any polls from Virginia but it would be mind-boggling to imagine the public here being particularly sympathetic to unions outside of the Democratic People's Republic of Arlington. That said, a democratic governor already banned collective bargaining for public sector unions back in '93 .

I also have difficulty imagining Tennessee being particularly pro-union. Remember that these polls were either of Wisconsin or the whole country. And there have been several conflicting polls.

                            • Well, both Pew and Rasmussen polls favor unions in Wisconsin. So for Walker, that's not so good.

Speaking of overreacting, it's been what, 5 days now you've been banging on about this?

And what rah said was pretty tame.
