HC is going nuts because some people believe the nonpartisan CBO's analysis of the effects of the bill instead of believing congress passed some kind of fantasy bill that increases the deficit.

I bet gribbler is one of those people that thinks he's saved money when he uses a bonus card at the grocery store. Or when he gets "buy one get one free".

Do you guys have any substantiative evidence to support your claims?

          DD, don't bother.

Because it's obviously connected to the bill? Here's the test:

Was it written alongside the primary bill? (yes!)
Was it intended to be passed with the primary bill? (yes!)
Would it have been passed if the primary bill had not been passed? (no!)
Would the primary bill have been passed if it had failed? (no!)

So even though it is on another sheet of paper and they have another vote for it, for all intents and purposes, IT IS PART OF THE BILL.

Since we're fantasizing about stuff that isn't part of the bill because it was taken out, I want to know how the public option will affect the deficit.

You are making my point for me about the numbers being garbage in, garbage out.

Gribbler is either been in some serious accident and is now at Kidicious-level stupidity or is trolling. Either way, I'm ignoring you now.

No, I'm just more inclined to listen to the CBO's opinion on this than what some high schooler thinks about it.

Would you be inclined to listen to a former director and assistant director of the CBO as long as we are engaging in blatant appeals to authority?

DD, you've done no better. You've provided no evidence to support your claims. Instead you just hide behind the opinions of conservative blogs. The very guy you're talking about here left the CBO to run a partisan thinktank. Hardly, the actions of someone without an agenda.

The fact remains that the CBO is still the highest authority on this matter. The right's flipflopping on when they will support the CBO's conclusions and when they won't have destroyed any credibility they have in this matter.

Kill the military and use the people who signed up for the military to do slave labour. That's what they're doing anyway, really, and they've already chosen to serve their country. So it's not really slavery. Except now instead of killing Iraqis they can manufacture cheap products.

                            Everybody wins.

Get with the times man. They've shifted their focus to killing Afghans now.

I hear people all the time say "oh just eliminate earmarks, that'll take care of it" or "raise taxes on the rich, that'll solve everything" or "eliminate nasa and foreign aid" or "cut the military in half" but none of those people are playing with real numbers. Hey brainiacs, if the military budget is 1 trillion and the deficit is 1.5 trillion, can you solve the deficit by cutting the military in half?

The NY Times had a neat thing to play with numbers and proposals. Here is what I came up with just now:
Now, you’re in charge of the nation’s finances. Make your own plan for closing the 2015 and 2030 budget gaps, then share it online.

The "Ozzy plan" would result in a $700 billion surplus by 2015 and (though projecting this far out seems ridiculous to me) a $2.2 trillion surplus by 2030. Put that into paying off the debt and we'll be all set. There, solved the problem. I cut spending AND raised taxes. Ozzy is fair and wise.
