I think Erich Von Daniken is just trying to sell books with fantastic theories.
He reminds me of a snake oil salesman.
Sometimes he just goes off into left field.
I saw a documentary while back that did prove he did a lot of fraud in finding /having made material for his book CoTG.
True. somethings on this planet cannot be explained, rather than aliens the humans at that time may have been more advanced than we think. ( lost knowledge? )
but, I try to keep a open mind.
OT
BTW
I saw a documentary the other day that showed overwhelming proof that the sphinx is 10,000 yrs older than first thought.Last edited by Docfeelgood; February 13, 2011, 09:16.

I like von Daniken even if some of his stuff was dubious, but Sitchin is far better imo. His reading of the Enuma Elish is groundbreaking.
Wrt the Sphinx, I believe it represents Leo - the age of Leo - and was the 1st age after the Flood ~11,000 BC. Or, it represents the cusp of Leo and the preceding age of the Virgin or Maiden, Virgo. Maybe the original head was a lion, or maybe a woman. Researchers have recently found mini-diamonds in the 12,800 year old layer of Greenland ice cores, the speculation being the Younger Dryas event - a severe reversal of the post ice age warming trend - was triggered by a comet impact that also had the effect of massive flooding from glacial lakes far larger than what we have today. The Book of Enoch describes 7 flaming mountains falling from the sky associated with the Flood. Of course that doesn't prove the Sphinx was carved 12,000 years ago, it could have been carved during dynastic Egypt in "honor" of the time the world "deck" was re-shuffled. But I suspect it does date back to pre-dynastic times...

Leo began ~10,800 bc, Virgo was the age before it
If the "Flood" happened ~13,000 years ago it would have occurred near the end of Virgo

In Mayan mythology "the Twins" (Gemini?) play an important role, but does that mean the story of the twins originated between ~6600 and 4300 bc? Who knows... Did the Maya even see the age of Gemini as the twins?

Virgo precedes Leo - unless you're going back in time, then Leo comes before Virgo.
Leo (♌) is the fifth astrological sign of the Zodiac, originating from the constellation of Leo. Individuals born when the Sun is in this sign are considered Leo individuals. The Sun is in Leo roughly from July 23 to August 23.
Virgo (♍) is the sixth astrological sign in the Zodiac, originating from the constellation of Virgo. Under the tropical zodiac, the Sun is in Virgo roughly from August 23 to September 23, leaving it at the moment of autumnal equinox, by definition.
Fifth comes before sixth, ******. July is before September. Christ...
