It's not like people are being held at gunpoint and shot if they don't buy health insurance.

That is not even remotely true. Back in the "debate" about the health care reform bill the Restupidilcans trotted out that lie and when NPR did a closer look the only main difference is that back in the Clinton years Democrats pushed through a requirement that insurance companies pay for preventive care specifically comprehensive screening for several types of cancer. Low and behold, lots of early screening does in deed catch cases early and allows for better recovery. Now, the rube is that Republicans claimed that proved private health care was better then national health care, but, consider that it was the result of a big bad unfunded government mandate that there was any difference at all. Also consider that the lying sack of dog **** Republicans were comparing 2006 USA data to 1999 UK data; gee, do you think they could be deliberately cherry picking obsolete data to try to prove a fake point? The reality is, as proven by NPR, that the UK and most other 1st world nations began pushing early screening right about the same time the US did and the results, according to the current data, are virtually identical among the various 1st world countries. The US would have been hugely worse off without that big bad evil big government mandate requiring insurance companies to actually spend money on health care which they hate to do because it is so much nicer for share holders if they just keep people paying and then drop them the second they get sick and actually need health care. Of course, no intelligent person expects Republicans to do anything but lie, as they ALWAYS do, so only ********* ever fell for this lie.

I'm doing it from memory but I'd still like to see a link. I remember specifically that they used pretty recent US data and badly out of date UK data. NPR looked at it and completely debunked it because once you used current data for both countries then the recovery rate was almost identical and all the OECD countries were pretty much in line with each other and the US.

Page 3 of this thread. I thought that was what you were talking about as those were the stats Ozzy was referring to in his post.

Speaking of guns this story made me lol: Bill would require all S.D. citizens to buy a gun

Totally different. Excluding people with a pre-existing condition (like being a felon or insane) from buying a gun is a good thing.

What's most silly about this is that states actually have the power to force you to buy something. The federal government does not.

However the federal government does have the ability to compel ownership of a gun (re: Militia Act of 1792) in furtherance of the powers of the legislative re:militia. Just not necessarily the compulsory purchase of one.
