  • Rumour has it that Mubarak will announce soon that he does not seek to be pres for another term (edit: apparently this one's ending september this year). Says Kraut media referring to news coming al-Arabija TV....wondering if that's true, and if so if it will have any effect....

edit2: just seen this in the other thread

    • Personally, I think that if there was real democratic reforms then we would see new political parties pop up just like we saw tons of new political parties being created in Iraq and Lebanon. Sure, we will no doubt see large and influential religious parties as that happens every where in the Muslim world when ever there is a democratic vote but in most cases I'm sure they'll muddle through and be fairly moderate in the end.

I doubt people will believe him. It looks more like a play for time by Mubarak, push things down the road to September so he can outlast the protesters and put in place new restrictions to prevent protests from popping up again half a year from now when he announces he's changed his mind again and will just stay in office for life.

BTW Muslim brotherhood is NOT the political wing of Hamas.

Braindead, HC is the kid brother of Kuciwalker, Kuciwalker being KrazyHorse's, let's say, protege.

HC also sounds like George McFly. No lie.

              • Obama is about to speak on the matter again.

Is he finally ready to cut Mubarak loose?

                • I saw the video on CNN and Obama is finally saying Mubarak needs to leave now. To bad it only took him a week of hemming and hawing before he finally took a stand (and even now Obama isn't saying there will be any push if Mubarak decides not to leave).

Uh, not really. They both make fun of you, and they're both inclined to look at things through the lens of economics, but that's most of what they have in common. Oh, yes, and they're heterosexual men, and I think they're both white.

Of course not, he's our ally. If we tried to chuck him out and he kept power that would make our relationship a bit awkward don't you think?

                        • Do you see Mubarak surviving this HC?

His nation has been virtually shut down for a week as the crowds in protest continue to grow and the military has flat out said they won't fire on Egyptians. Ruling by threat of force doesn't work when everyone knows it is an empty threat.

I'm surprised the people haven't tossed his ass out yet. Remarkable patience on their part.

Who cares? Seriously, what materially would change if we decide not to give him billions per year in tanks and fighter jets?

Mubarak might not survive but the regime could. And he could very well keep power until the end of his term.

Tin pot dictators would be less eager to be our allies in the future. Boo hoo.
