Sue and Dan? Why not Bob? At least spell it out like so: Suzanne and Daniel.

Can't wait for my issue of Girls of SoSud to come out.

Pretty good hand washing there Dan.

Did you blame the Iraq cluster**** on the Iraqi's as well?

Your post doesn't make any sense and your argument in this thread is absurd.

Why should I feel obligated to do anything if I think it's a good idea that Southern Sudan's long-held and expressed aspirations for independence are fulfilled?
I came upon a barroom full of bad Salon pictures in which men with hats on the backs of their heads were wolfing food from a counter. It was the institution of the "free lunch" I had struck. You paid for a drink and got as much as you wanted to eat. For something less than a rupee a day a man can feed himself sumptuously in San Francisco, even though he be a bankrupt. The Sudan referendum is being conducted under the auspices of the international community Dan. WE are sponsoring the vote, they aren't doing this alone. I can't make it any clearer for you.

I remember in the aftermath of Gulf 1 when the US urged the southern Shiites to rise up against Saddam then stood back and watched as Saddam massacred them. Hey, it wasn't our fault.

So the same attitude after we didn't sit back as when we did. Classic "damned if you do, damned if you don't". Ditto in Sudan, evidently.

So what? It's not as if this is our idea. We'll recognize the vote, they might have a couple more border or internal wars, and then things will settle down there.

It is our actions Dan. Actions and deeds, not words at play in Sudan.

Without the international community's support and logistics there would be no vote in Sudan today.

                      Yay, international community.

Again, not our idea. Listen, it's no more our responsibility than conflict in any other part of the world.

This isn't an anti-US thing Sloww. I include Canada in the "we" part of my argument.

                          You're deliberatlely being obtuse.

Wash your hands Dan if it makes you feel better. I'm tired of running around this tree with you.

I'll presume the vast majority of readers of the thread will grasp the point that eludes you.

A big difference of course is that southern Sudanese are/were being made into slaves (literally) while the Confederacy was doing the slaving. It's hard to argue Texan's human rights were being violated by the Feds.
