Nahhh... he's stating that GOD is responsible for all the suffering, since it's his plan. The only way his God can teach us anything is to make us suffer. Unless we suffer, we can't learn anything. There is no other method that God knows of besides suffering to teach humans anything. That's one dumb God...

Yes, I'll admit that the church frequently uses good deeds as an enticement to convert, but even the cynical side of me will recognize that some good deeds are motivated simply by the desire to do good deeds or the belief that they are doing gods will.

You seem to be stuck on this particular thing, raping children. There is all kinds of evil in the world. How can you learn forgiveness without it? Does a little child who knows nothing of suffering understand forgiveness?

Yeah, maybe. I do want to give props to those that do. Religious organizations often lead the way. It's the most positive thing that religions do IMO. It may not offset all the evils done in the name of religion but I'm glad they do as much as they do. There have been many priests and nuns that had a positive impact in my life which I appreciated. The church does do some positive things. (I just wanted to say that since I'm usually bashing the church)

We can learn without having to suffer. A god that doesn't know that is not all knowing.

The devil is one of god's tools to keep mankind in line through fear - just like the guvmint of today using the eeeevil terrists do while the **** they like with people's civil rights. A population in fear usually keeps its head down and is meek and subvervient.
