  • So now DinoDoc is all "I don't see why this was so important"? What are you trying to prove, Dino? Just suck it up that you lost on this issue and move on.

What do you mean "how so"? Was it not a pressing issue to, for example, desegregate the military? How can extending basic civil rights not be considered pressing?

Either you are being deliberately obtuse or you are an idiot.

Something that legitimately had to be taken up right then rather than dealing with it in the new Congress. So far you haven't provided a real reason.

            • What is DinoDoc trying to do? Why does it matter when it is done? Why not sooner the better? Why wait if they have the votes now?

I fail to see why it had to be taken up by congress at all save to give Obama cover on a contentious issue (rather than taking the opportunity to lead on the issue at the behest of the court findings) and to give Reid a save face for his previously contemptable actions to marry the issue to other contentious issues (read DREAM Act) as a means to create wedge issues for his own personal re-election bid.

                  • DADT is part and parcel of homosexual civil rights. Most civil rights have advanced slowly among different paths, allowing people to become more and more comfortable with the "other" and allowing for greater and greater trust for those minorities. Allowing open homosexuals in the military, which is the most trusted organization in the US, will have a massive impact on other issues.

Your point is? If you're going to bring up the election why should people explicitly rejected by the people be deciding significant issues when there is no pressing emergency behind an issue demanding it be dealt with right then?

DADT is a law passed by Congress so any action to repeal it had to take place there.

                      • I don't understand why DinoDoc is taking issue with the timing of this? If they had the votes, why not sooner, the better, right? Regardless of how you feel about this issue, it makes no sense to be puzzled about the 'timing' like DinoDoc is, saying it should have waited til the next session of Congress.

Civil rights violations are always a pressing emergency and should be dealt with as soon as humanly possible. The fact that it took so long was a failing of this Congress and President.

Imran beat me to this. But reiterating his thoughts - you don't think civil rights violation is something warrants emergency action?
