I had to figure out that it was describing fertility rates and clearly some people (like Asher) were a bit confused. Seriously, Hera, no caption or anything? Just put a chart up and expect everyone to know how your mind works?
I got that, but it still doesn't prove his statement. Maybe it does in the Heraverse, but there everyone is white and lobotomized.

Completely misunderstood your comment, I tought you where talking about how secular it was.

Disparaging the US because of its near religiosity seemed more like something you would say in the thread than disparaging it on having slightly above replacemenet fertility (BTW why is slow population growth in the US a bad thing?) and I just skimmed the posts here.

Italy, Austria and Germany where meant to be given as places where people according to the first map put as much or more importance on religion and are considered part of the developed world.

Modern man calls walking more quickly in the same direction down the same road “change.”
The world, in the last three hundred years, has not changed except in that sense.

Third world countries are the predominant source of future Western populations. And for example descendants of Muslim immigrants in Europe grow on average more radical and orhodox than their immigrant parents.

          It actually does.

              • Actually it is kind of ironic that bc1871 reveres the monarchy of a country that is one of the least religious in the world with that post.

I can't wait for religion to evaporate. Hopefully if we manage to get better standards of education throughout the world this will accelerate. Religion is a tool to manipulate the uneducated and vulnerable.

                  • Back to the thread topic:

The peril facing Saint-Nom-de-Jésus, or Holy Name of Jesus, is an almost unremarkable occurrence in Montreal and other parts of a province that prays at the altar of secularism. According to one estimate, 340 places of worship in Quebec of all denominations have either closed, undergone conversions or been demolished in the past decade, and the pace of the collapse is picking up each year...

The crumbling state of the churches is a physical embodiment of the state of religious observance – and the phenomenon is hardly limited to Quebec. From British Columbia to Newfoundland, places of worship of all mainstream denominations are falling victim to dwindling attendance, rising land values and maintenance costs too onerous for congregations to bear.

The United Church, the largest Protestant denomination in Canada, closes one church a week, and has shuttered more than 400 in the past decade. The Anglican Church, which said in a report this year it was hemorrhaging members, has seen eight churches close on Vancouver Island and the Gulf Islands, and placed another six on a one-year watch list.

                    Oh, happy days.

                    • It's good that religion is diminishing...some of those churches occupy some pricey real estate...and some churches even make for impressive flat conversions

                      • Exactly. They're currently wasting good real estate.
