  • Asher, are you even going to try? Or are you deliberately playing the sophist in our little "showing how the American post-secondary education system is good" dialogue?

Explain how that implies that ASU isn't financed by tuition.

This is largely because the younger generation just isn't going to college like the prior ones.

The US was ranked 2nd in college completion rates in the 35-64 category. Behind only Canada.
Where are you getting 78% of students graduate from high school? Everywhere I'm seeing says 88-90% of students graduate from high school,

You made the claim that it has one of the highest rates of post-secondary education in the world. This is false.

It is only true if you include EVERY COUNTRY in the world like Uganda rather than just developed nations, where the US is in the bottom half.

            ?

ASU is financed by tuition and public subsidies. Just like public schools are in Canada.

Why else would non-residents pay 2 1/2 times as much?

              NO!

This is Texas State University's breakdown, which I'm assuming isn't an outlier:

It's not ideal but it's the best I could quickly find. Still shows what role tuition plays even without considering gifts and research grants.

Specifically, this ranking includes degrees from institutions in other countries that correspond to trade schools in the US.

There's tons out there. Use google.

This state by state breakdown is illuminating:

This is just a massive non sequitur, Asher. There's no reason that the out-of-state tuition can't be what's subsidizing the in-state tuition.

It includes 2-year diplomas, yes. This constitutes post-secondary education.

Holy **** are you ever ignorant.

I get into two finance debates with you and I wipe the floor in both?

How can you not know STATE universities are subsidized by the STATE?

Why is that list completely different from this one?

Mine was high school dropout rate, yours is % of population 25 and up with a HS diploma or equivalent (GED).

I have no idea how "registration fees" are meaningfully different from tuition for purposes of this issue. Moreover, sales are not government subsidies. So if we assume "appropriations" refers to appropriations by the legislature you've got it at roughly 1/3. Moreover, it's not clear why a single data point is an appropriate sample...

Also, research grants primarily finance... research, AS. That's basically orthogonal.
