Philly metro area has 2.3x the area and 3.25x the population density

      Calgary's pop density is ~3500/square mile; Philly's is 11,500K/square mile. That's 325% of Calgary's.

Where do you get 30% from?

Is this the math you use at Goldman Sachs? I'm lost.

What is the magical line you draw in population density to define rural? What about suburban? Then urban?

        • BTW, the 'metro' definition of Calgary on Wikipedia is retarded.

          - City 726.50 km2 (280.5 sq mi)
          - Metro 5,107.43 km2 (1,972 sq mi)

Considering 92% of the people in the 'metro' area live within the city limits...

            The census defines rural as...

areas designated as rural can have population densities as high as 999 per square mile
The pop density of Calgary's METRO area...

            Metro density 227.5/km2 (589.2/sq mi)
589.2 < 999... according to the US Census definitions, Calgary metro area is rural. Thank you.

            • Calgary's population density is similar to my hometown, so it's definitely suburban in my book.

                LOL.

Yes, there's tons of rural communities outside of Calgary that, for whatever reason, are included as part of the 'metro' area. They are NOT part of Calgary...******.

The population density of Calgary is 3522.

3522 > 999, so Calgary is most certainly not "rural".

                It is definitely suburban.

I would still like the genius to share with me the Goldman Sachs math that Philly having 325% the density of Calgary be a 30% difference in density... I'm only a ******, after all, and need it explained.

Let's see... I'm a ****** (you called me that 3 times in this thread alone) so bare with me

                            Philly:
                            - Consolidated city-county 369.3 km2 (142.6 sq mi)
                            - Consolidated city-county 1,547,901 (6th)

so, 1547901 people in 142.6 sq miles... you divide, right? 10,854 people/square mile

                            Calgary:
                            - City 726.50 km2 (280.5 sq mi)
                            - City 988,193 (3rd)

So 988,193 people in 280.5 sq miles... 3522 people/square miles

Let's see so now you divide 10,854 by 3522 which gives you 3.08. I only went to a third-tier school so I could be wrong () but I think that means Philly has 3.08x the population density of Calgary.

Where's the 30% difference? I need to learn the Goldman Sachs math that makes this so.

Oh and yeah... that's city core to city core. Not using any metro stats up there.

It's fun. I've proven that by US census definitions Calgary metro area is rural and that Asher is probably a farmboy hick.

Furthermore, I need to learn how Philly is only 30% more dense than Calgary. KH?
