i wouldn't worry too much. it was own silly fault really, walking in an unsafe area, drunk, at 4.30am. i was just too cheap to spend R$2 to get a bus to central.

Well I am off to Mexico City afterwards which is notoriously dodgy in places, but have never had any problems there in all my months spent there in the past year or two...providing you are (1)inconspicuous and (2)not American The Mexicans are very suspicious of you at first as an English speaker because they think you are American. As soon as they find our you're English, they're awesome
