While most legislation will require cooperation, the Democrats will still have a monopoly on a number of other things. In particular, nominations (barring a filibuster which is a no-no for nominations these days) and the presidential veto, as well as control over the executive branch, in particular the State Department, Homeland Security and the military which gives the Republicans plenty of targets.
All of which won't matter to the general electorate one bit. It will be pretty simple: Is the economy good? Yes? Then Obama wins, and congress will likely remain mostly unchanged, unless his victory is so large and the Republican seat margin in the House so small that he might be able to shift control back.

    • A portion of the CBS Evening News tonight was devoted to positioning for the 2012 GOP primary.

Jesus titty-****ing Christ. Can we not get through these ****ing 2010 elections first?

      • Ok, looks like I was wrong about Murkowski. Wonder if the GOP will strip her of Committee assignments and seniority?

But it is hilarious that he continues to post as if he's above this forum, despite providing no evidence to the contrary. The only person he's trying to convince is himself. I guess you have to have a pretty high level of delusion to believe the crap he does.

            • That would be true if the majority of America didn't agree with the ideology. Most Americans agree though when it comes to smaller limited government, lower taxes, immigration, and a more sane foreign policy that doesn't have us running around the globe spreading Democracy. These are issues that cross party lines, especially the immigration issue. If Republicans are smart they'll just hammer away at these issues relentlessly and stay away from the social issues. Leave the social issues to the states and the voters.
The majority of America wants lower taxes, a balanced budget, no cuts to any entitlement programs (in polls done when given a list of specific programs and asked what they wanted to cut the only thing that got over 50% was foreign aid and you're not going to balance the budget cutting that), smaller government as long as it doesn't cause any personal inconvenience, strong anti-terror programs, civil liberties, no pork barrel spending, government programs that bring the unemployment rate back down to five ish, bombing Iran and not starting any new wars.

If you think that you can turn that into a clear mandate for ANY specific course of change on the part of the majority of Americans you're insane.

              • So to sum up your point:

Americans are ****ing retarded, and as a result, we, as a nation, are jolly-well ****ed.

                • When push comes to shove, Americans have been willing to cut entitlements in the past.

                    • O'Donnell was booked on news shows this morning but canceled. I wonder if it's tied to the revelation she used to "dabble" in witchcraft...

Considering how often she appeared on Maher's show, it's probably going to provide a wealth of awesomage on her.
