Well I was rejected from an administrative assistant position that required that. Are you talking about admin. assistant openings or bookkeeping openings? I don't know what bookkeepers need, but if secretaries need to go to an accredited secretarial school, than I imagine bookkeepers need some sort of accounting background.

Even though, again, it seems easier than any management position that requires bookkeeping as part of the job description.

Watch me get rejected for bookkeeping positions even though I've done that everyday for years in a management context and I have a degree.

Can't you teach English to school age hispanic immigrants?

Can't an english major teach in High School? That kind of job should be easy to get.

Otherwise, teach English in east Asia, Korea o Japan

You need a Masters (and usually an education degree) generally to teach, especially high school. I've seen bachelors in education/child development people teach elementary school though but they never have much job security even with the teachers' union. They're the first ones to go when districts downsize.

And he lives in like Kansas or something. There's not many hispanic immigrants I imagine.

Eastern shore region of Maryland (ie, south and east of Baltimore). Culturally somewhat similar to Kansas, but not especially--I was surprised to find that everybody at work, of all ages, loathes the Tea Party, for example. Anyway, we get some Latinos. I considered teaching English overseas, but then decided it was unwise; I've got no experience supervising kids and no strong reason to believe I'd be good at it. I'm an introvert, after all. I figured it would be irresponsible to sign a contract, haul ass all the way over to Korea and then find out I can't do the job. I signed up for substitute teaching in three counties to toe the waters, never heard back. Eh. Tough economy, they got tons of applicants, I guess. Plus, like I said before, I'm a ****up.

Al, I've applied to plenty of AA openings and the first time I heard of "accredited secretarial schools" was when you mentioned it.

Elok, I think you'd be very apt as a programmer or DBA or something tech related. Computers and aspies go together very, very well. It's absurd how many aspies I've worked with.

The need for order and the analytical mind is a natural fit.

Do I need to pull up the job that required a certificate from an accredited secretarial school?

                  Here:

Certification from an accredited secretarial school.
Type that exact phrase in quotes in google and you'll get 2,930 hits.

We've been doing a lot of hiring recently. I've read a lot of CVs.

These days almost all of them have a paragraph at the top labelled "Objective" or something similar that describes what kind of person they are and what kind of role they want.

That resume is a work history, but it gives me no idea what kind of work you want to do, or why you'd be useful to me in my organisation. If you were applying for an admin role I'd reject you for the following reasons:

                      1. No history of administration roles (data entry doesn't count, that's repetitive grunt work, the office equivalent of working on a factory floor)
                      2. The trend in your roles seem to be management or leadership orientated, admin assistants are order takers not order givers. Makes me think you won't be a good fit.
                      3. No evidence of any "admin assistant" skills, within those other roles. Have you managed an executives diary or appointments calendar? Screened calls/emails? Done anything like arranged on/off-site meetings including all collatoral and refreshments? Managed travel arrangements for people?

In fact I'd have no idea why you were applying for an admin assistant role rather than a trainee/junior management role.

In the current economic climate that's not so bad actually. Lots of people have been struggling to find work.

If I was interviewing you I would say "so what have you been doing in the last year?" and I would expect you to have some good answers. Beyond "looking for work". I'd want good evidence you'd actually been trying to improve your skills in some way too. Whether it be teaching yourself something, or taking formal classes or whatever.
